Eikund Evja Coffee Table square
The new Norwegian furniture company Eikund is re-launching Norwegian furniture classics that will most definitely impress. With the presentation of Veng, designed by Torbjørn Bekken in 1960, Eikund is entering a chapter in the Norwegian design history that has been hidden for too long. Some may have heard of designers like Arne Korsmo and Grete Prytz Kittelsen, but the scope of creativity blooming in this country around the mid-twentieth century is for many an unknown territory. Pulled out into the spotlight again, there is no doubt that these objects fit perfectly into contemporary interiors of today, both in public and private sector.
Evja is a family of lounge tables that Torbjørn Bekken designed with an organic and almost floating expression. Bekken graduated from the National Academy of Craft and Art Industry in 1946, and words best to describe him is technical, detail oriented and elegant. This can be exemplified by the long uninterrupted curving line from the edge of the table towards the legs, how it slightly narrowing downwards to the floor. It’s like a ballerina lightly tipping around on the surface.
